Drupal upgrades and migrations for legacy sites

Move Drupal 7 or another older site to a supported release without discarding the parts that still work.

The problem

A legacy Drupal site rarely has one clean upgrade path. Contributed modules may have changed, custom code may contain undocumented business rules, and integrations cannot simply be switched off. The first job is to identify what must survive, what can be replaced and what can be retired.

Work covered

  • Inventory the code, modules, data, content types and integrations that shape the current site.

  • Assess Drupal 7 and other legacy-version risks before estimating the full migration.

  • Plan replacements for unsupported modules and custom code.

  • Build repeatable content and configuration migrations that can be tested more than once.

  • Test URLs, permissions, integrations and business-critical workflows before cutover.

  • Prepare a cutover and rollback plan for the release window.

Typical deliverables

The exact deliverables follow the scope. These are the usual outputs.

A written inventory and recommended upgrade path.
A migration backlog with risks and dependencies made visible.
Repeatable migration code and the replacement work agreed in scope.
Test results, cutover steps and post-launch checks.

How the work is organized

The sequence changes by service. Scope and timing are agreed before each phase begins.

  1. Phase 1 · before the full estimate

    Assessment

We inspect the current site and document what must move, what can change and what is likely to cause trouble.

  2. Phase 2 · based on the assessment

    Migration build

The new platform, migration code and replacement features are built and tested against real site data.

  3. Phase 3 · planned with your team

    Cutover

We run the final migration, verify the important paths and remain available through stabilization.

Common questions

Do you work with Drupal 7?

Yes. We assess Drupal 7 sites, maintain them where appropriate and plan migrations to a supported release.

Does an upgrade require a redesign?

No. A technical upgrade, a frontend redesign and a content rewrite are different decisions. They can be combined, but they do not have to be.

Can you quote the whole migration immediately?

Not responsibly for an unfamiliar legacy site. The assessment exists to uncover custom code, data and integration risks before the larger estimate is agreed.
